Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the ICO Generator?

ICO Generator creates an ICO file. This tool creates a ZIP containing a multi-size ICO, separate browser and touch PNG icons, a starter manifest and installation files.

What files are included?

The ZIP contains favicon.ico, 16/32/48-pixel favicon PNGs, apple-touch-icon.png at 180 pixels, 192/512-pixel Android PNGs, site.webmanifest, install.html, and README.txt.

Does this make my website an installable app?

The package provides icons and a starter manifest. It does not add a service worker or offline support, and does not guarantee installability. The icons use purpose:any, not maskable.

How should I install the files?

Place the image files and site.webmanifest at your website root and paste install.html inside your page head. Adjust root-relative paths and start_url for a subdirectory installation. Keep any existing manifest settings your app needs.

What images can I upload?

Upload one still JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or TIFF, up to 10 MiB and 24 million pixels. Animated and multiple-page inputs are rejected. Use a square image at least 512 pixels wide for best results; smaller sources are enlarged.

Will my image be cropped?

Fit with transparent padding preserves the entire image. Fill and crop trims it to a square. All exported icons have square dimensions.

Is the favicon generated in my browser?

No. The source image is uploaded for server processing. Download and extract the temporary ZIP promptly, then install its files on your own website.
