Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an MP4 clip to a GIF?

Choose an MP4 file, set a start time and a duration of up to 30 seconds, then choose the maximum dimension and frame rate. Convert and download the silent GIF. MOV, M4V and WebM files are also accepted.

What are the limits?

Upload a file up to 50 MiB with no more than 16 megapixels per frame and 8192 pixels per side. Each export is at most 30 seconds. Large GIF exports may need a lower frame rate or smaller dimensions.

Can I convert a URL?

This tool accepts uploaded files only.

Will my GIF include sound?

No. GIF supports images and timing but does not support audio.

What happens if I choose a duration longer than the source?

The export ends at the end of the source. It does not repeat the input to fill the requested duration.

How can I make the GIF smaller?

Start with a shorter clip, a smaller maximum dimension and a lower frame rate. These reduce the amount of image data. Output size varies with the clip; a GIF can be larger than its source video.

What does the loop count mean?

Zero means loop forever. A positive value is the number of repeats after the first playback. This differs from Animated GIF Maker, where the setting is a total play count.

Is the video uploaded?

Yes. Conversion uploads the file to the server. Video links are not accepted. Save the temporary GIF download promptly.
