Frequently Asked Questions
How do I extract audio from a video?
Choose an MP4, MOV, M4V or WebM video, set a start time and up to five minutes of audio, then select MP3 or WAV. Click Extract audio, listen to the result and download the audio file.
Which track is extracted?
The first audio track is exported at 48 kHz in stereo. Files without audio show a clear error. A video track is required; audio-only files and cover images are not accepted as videos.
Should I choose MP3 or WAV?
MP3 uses lossy compression and a selectable bitrate. WAV stores uncompressed 16-bit PCM and is usually much larger. Converting to WAV cannot restore detail already lost in the source.
Can the browser preview every input?
Preview support depends on your browser and the video codec. A file that cannot play locally may still be convertible by the server. Downloaded MP3 and WAV outputs have a separate audio player.
What are the limits?
Upload an MP4, MOV, M4V or WebM video up to 100 MiB and 30 minutes. Export up to 5 minutes at a time. Source video is limited to 16 megapixels and 8192 pixels per side; output is limited to 80 MiB. Choose a shorter section or lower MP3 bitrate if the output is too large.
When is my file uploaded?
Choosing a file creates a local preview. Clicking Extract audio uploads it for processing. Canceling or editing stops waiting for that export; an already uploaded server job may finish. Download the result before its temporary link expires.
Can I convert MP4 to MP3?
Yes. Select an MP4 with an audio track, choose MP3 and a bitrate from 64 to 320 kbps, then export. MOV, M4V and WebM inputs are accepted too. The tool does not accept audio-only files or extract speech separately from music.
Can I export all the audio from a long video?
Sources may be up to 30 minutes, but one export can contain at most 5 minutes. Leaving duration blank uses the remaining audio only when it fits that limit. Set a duration of 300 seconds or less for a longer source.
How do I extract a three-second MP4 audio sample?
For a video longer than five seconds, set Start time to 2 and Duration to 3. Choose MP3 at 192 kbps and click Extract audio to export the interval from two to five seconds. In a checked ten-second test video, the MP3 was about 3.02 seconds and 71 KiB; the same section as WAV was 3 seconds and 563 KiB. Both used 48 kHz stereo. Encoder padding and the source affect exact duration and bytes.
Why is a WAV larger or the extracted sound different from what I expected?
WAV uses uncompressed 16-bit PCM at 48 kHz stereo, about 192,000 audio bytes per second before its small header. MP3 is compressed. A larger WAV does not restore lost sound quality. If the wrong language plays, the first source audio track may be different from the one you expected; there is no track selector. A silent video produces a no-audio-track error.
