Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reduce an MP4 video file size?
Choose your video and a shorter section if needed. Select a smaller maximum dimension or Smaller file quality, then export MP4. Compare the reported input and output sizes; savings depend on the source.
Will the compressed file always be smaller?
No. Size depends on the source and selected settings. The result reports actual before and after sizes, including when output is larger. Choose Smaller file or a smaller maximum dimension to reduce size.
What happens to my video and audio?
The first real video track is exported as H.264 MP4 with square pixels, even dimensions, and up to 30 fps. The first audio track is converted to 48 kHz stereo AAC at 128 kbps unless muted. Other audio tracks, subtitles, chapters, and metadata are omitted. Images used only as cover art are not treated as video.
Does this increase resolution?
No. Maximum dimension means the longer edge, and smaller videos are not enlarged apart from rounding tiny dimensions to valid even pixels. Anamorphic pixels and right-angle phone rotation are normalized.
What are the limits?
Upload up to 100 MiB. Source videos can be up to 30 minutes; export up to 5 minutes at a time. Videos are limited to 16 megapixels and 8192 pixels per side; outputs to 80 MiB. Large high-frame-rate clips may need a shorter selection or smaller dimensions. Two exports can run at once, with a two-minute deadline per job.
When is my file uploaded?
Choosing a file creates a local preview. Clicking Export MP4 uploads it for processing. Canceling or editing stops waiting for that export; an already uploaded server job may finish. Download the result before its temporary link expires.
Can I compress a whole long video?
The source may be up to 30 minutes, but each export is limited to 5 minutes. Leaving duration blank uses the remaining video only when that remainder is within the five-minute limit. Select a shorter duration for longer sources.
