PNG and JPG to AVIF
Create one still AVIF from PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or TIFF. Keep the original as a fallback for destinations that do not accept AVIF.
Choose encoder quality
Select a quality setting from 50 to 95. A higher setting usually keeps more detail and may produce a larger file; results depend on the image.
Reduce maximum width
Keep the original dimensions or choose 1920, 1280, or 800 pixels. A 1200 × 600 image becomes 800 × 400 at Max Width 800; a 320 × 160 image stays that size when the limit is larger.
How to convert PNG or JPG to AVIF

Start with Balanced (65). Choose High Quality (80) or Maximum Quality (95) if fine edges or gradients need a closer comparison.

Choose Keep Original to preserve dimensions, or select a smaller Max Width. For example, 1200 × 600 at 800px produces 800 × 400 without cropping.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I make an 800px AVIF from a transparent PNG?
Upload a 1200 × 600 PNG, leave Quality at Balanced (65), and choose Max Width 800px. A checked example produced an 800 × 400 AVIF with its transparent border and partially transparent area intact. The width limit reduces both dimensions proportionally without cropping. If your source is already 320 × 160, choosing 1280px keeps it at 320 × 160 instead of enlarging it.
Which images can I upload?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, and TIF. This page always creates AVIF. Use Image Converter for AVIF input or SVG rasterization.
Will an animated image stay animated?
No. This page converts the first frame or page into one still AVIF image. For animated GIF output, use Animated GIF Maker, Sprite Sheet to GIF, or Video to GIF.
Does conversion always make my image smaller?
No. File size depends on the original encoding, dimensions, quality setting, and image content. Compare the downloaded file and keep the original when it better suits your needs.
What should I change if fine details look soft in the AVIF?
First compare the AVIF and original at the same displayed size. Keep Original avoids losing detail through resizing; then try quality 80 or 95 and inspect thin lines and gradients. Higher quality can increase the file size and cannot recover detail missing from the source. Keep the original if the encoded result is unsuitable.
Can I keep a transparent background?
AVIF supports alpha transparency, and this converter can retain an existing alpha channel, including partial transparency. A viewer may display transparent areas against white or black; check the file over a contrasting background before assuming transparency was lost. Converting an opaque JPG does not create transparency or remove its background.
What is the upload limit?
The default limit is 30 MiB for one file. Check the upload area for the current limit. The server upload ceiling is 100 MiB per file; file complexity and processing time can also limit conversion.
Where are files processed and when are they removed?
This tool uploads files to Zutilium's server for processing. After a successful conversion, uploads are scheduled for deletion after about one minute and generated downloads after about ten minutes. Cleanup runs periodically, so removal is not immediate. Save your result promptly.
