JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, TIF
Max file size: 30 MiB
PNG and JPG to WebP
Convert one PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, or TIF into a still WebP image. Existing PNG transparency can be retained.
Quality and width options
Start at Default (85), or compare the available quality values from 70 to 100. Keep the original width or limit it to 1920, 1280, 800, or 640 pixels.
Retain proportions and existing alpha
Width reduction keeps the aspect ratio and avoids upscaling. Existing transparency can be retained in WebP.
How to convert PNG or JPG to WebP
- 1
Upload one PNG, JPG, GIF or TIFF. Use a PNG with an alpha channel when you need a transparent WebP.
- 2
Start with Default (85). Try Balanced (80) or Optimized (70) for a size comparison, or 90 and 100 when checking whether extra detail is worth a larger file.
- 3
Select Keep Original or a smaller Max Width. A 1200 × 600 image becomes 800 × 400 at 800px, or 640 × 320 at 640px; smaller inputs are not enlarged.
- 4
Convert and download the WebP. Compare its dimensions, file size, fine edges and transparency with the source before replacing the original.
What people use this tool for
- Create WebP copies of images for a compatible website workflow.
- Resize a large photo while converting it to WebP.
- Export a transparent PNG graphic as a still WebP image.
Frequently Asked Questions
What settings turn a transparent 1200 × 600 PNG into an 800px WebP?
Use Default (85) quality and Max Width 800px. A checked transparent PNG produced an 800 × 400 WebP with both its clear border and partially transparent area preserved. Choosing 640px produced 640 × 320. The width setting is a maximum: a 320 × 160 image stays 320 × 160 even if you select 1280px.
Can I upload AVIF, SVG, or WebP?
This page accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and TIF. Use Image Converter for AVIF, SVG, or WebP input.
Is quality 100 lossless?
No. The current encoder passes a quality value but does not enable WebP lossless mode. A setting of 100 is a high-quality lossy export, not a lossless guarantee.
Why do small text or colored edges look different after PNG to WebP conversion?
This page uses lossy WebP encoding, so fine lines, lettering or colored edges can change even at quality 100. Compare both images at the same displayed size, choose Keep Original to avoid additional resizing, and try a higher quality value. For artwork that must retain its exact pixels, keep the source PNG; a transparent background alone does not mean the RGB colors were preserved exactly.
Will animation or multiple TIFF pages be kept?
No. This page reads the first frame or page and produces one still WebP image. Use a dedicated animation workflow for multiple frames.
Will the output always be smaller?
No. File size depends on the original encoding, image content, dimensions, and quality. Compare the downloaded result before replacing the source.
What is the upload limit?
The default limit is 30 MiB for one file. Check the upload area for the current limit. The server upload ceiling is 100 MiB per file; file complexity and processing time can also limit conversion.
Where are files processed and when are they removed?
This tool uploads files to Zutilium's server for processing. After a successful conversion, uploads are scheduled for deletion after about one minute and generated downloads after about ten minutes. Cleanup runs periodically, so removal is not immediate. Save your result promptly.
