Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert Markdown to DOCX?
Paste Markdown or open a UTF-8 .md or .markdown file. Review the live preview, choose your page settings and click Export Word. Download the .docx file and continue editing it in Word or LibreOffice.
Is the Word document editable?
Yes. Text, headings, lists, tables, links and images are native Word elements, not screenshots. Code remains editable text and task items use checkbox controls.
Will it look exactly like the preview?
The preview shows your content and approximate styling. Word and LibreOffice apply their own pagination and installed fonts. DOCX uses Arial or Times New Roman for body text and Courier New for code; fonts may be substituted. Open the downloaded document to check final layout.
Can I add images or HTML?
Insert a local PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF of up to 1 MiB. Images are embedded in the DOCX; animated images use their first frame. Remote images are not fetched. Raw HTML is kept as text, and scripts, custom CSS, diagrams and math rendering are unsupported.
What are the limits?
Markdown including embedded images is limited to 2 MiB. Images are limited to 16 megapixels each, 32 megapixels combined and 32 images. Word exports support up to 10,000 content blocks and 10,000 table cells, nine list levels, fewer than 100 explicit page breaks and a 20 MiB DOCX file. Actual page count depends on the application opening the document.
Does my Markdown leave the browser?
Editing and preview run locally. Export Word uploads the current Markdown and embedded images for conversion; the DOCX download is temporary. Your draft stays in this tab's session storage when available, separately from the Markdown to PDF draft. Download Markdown to keep a local source copy.
Does the converter accept a Word .doc file?
No. The input is Markdown text and the output is DOCX. It does not convert existing DOC or DOCX files, and it does not create the older .doc format.
What can I check with a small Markdown-to-DOCX example?
Try a document with a main heading, a subheading, two task items and a three-column table with two data rows. Export Word, then edit a cell in Word or LibreOffice. In a checked sample, the DOCX contained native heading styles, two checkbox elements and nine editable table cells. Code remained text and an HTTPS link was stored as a document link; check final pagination in the application you use.
Why does a table or picture look wrong after export?
For a Markdown table, include a separator row with one cell per column and keep wide tables within the chosen page width. Landscape orientation or smaller text may help. Insert a local image instead of using a remote image URL. If Word substitutes a font or wraps code differently from the preview, adjust the document settings and check a fresh export.
